Your origin story is powerful.
Here’s mine.

I was raised in L.A. in an oppressive religious environment with a Sanskrit name, so I’ve always been fascinated with identity.

Burdened with an impossible set of rules that did not match my deepest self. Discouraged from outside social interaction inside a tight-knit religious community.

Afraid of being found out as “different” than everyone else, hiding from myself and others.

Finding a sense of Self in my younger years was challenging.

So I pushed down many of my natural impulses and intuition at an early age to conform. I let other people's needs and beliefs make decisions for me. I downplayed my own ambitions and goals.

I lost touch with my inner Self.

In young adulthood I discovered art, which opened my eyes and heart. I discovered graphic design which opened up my world. I left the stifling religious community and began the process of discovering who I truly was.

I worked for several design studios in Los Angeles, and learned identity & branding from legends in the business.  I moved away for the first time to work for design studios in NYC. I immersed my professional life in a wide range of clients & disciplines from luxury to non-profit, but never felt fully satisfied with the content or output of the work.

I returned to Los Angeles, where two life-changing experiences intersected that finally led me to the deeper self awareness that I’d been missing.

I began making art everyday and sharing it online. I was surprised and happy to find connection with a larger community, and had to pinch myself when it resulted in my first solo gallery show.

I also began studying meditation, and quickly became fascinated by the process… and the results

The experience of tapping into the unconscious, a deeper connection to myself than I’d ever experienced, gave rise to new feelings of inner knowing and peace. Both of these practices fed into each other, and subsequently into my conceptual design work.

The deeper I went inward, the more that flow state made itself visible to me. The closer I got my intuition, the more depth I began to see in my work.

This revelation became increasingly important in my life and work and became integral to my process, and I began to refocus on my first design love: identity and brand work. Meditation led me to all sorts of other previously forbidden spiritual and esoteric practices. My art practice grew and evolved, and I continued to show my work in galleries. I was introduced to SoulCollage®, a blend of collage and inner work practice that really illuminated how these disciplines can enhance each other.

In my free time I became a trained facilitator, began studying the tarot, Joseph Campbell’s The Hero’s Journey, (and Maureen Murdock’s The Heroine’s Journey!) and all means of practices to help strengthen that inner knowing. The benefits to my professional life and creative output continued to reveal themselves.

When art, design, symbolism, and inner work all overlap, it touches on something deeper that creates more beautiful and authentic storytelling.

This became the new focus of my professional design career.

I began to weave all these practices together in real time when working with clients. In an increasingly artificial, changing, and posturing world, I believe that understanding your core identity and values, connecting to your intuition, and knowing your own story is a foundation on which you can build anything. Allowing that understanding to be your guide, while applying traditional design disciplines, can create a brand that connects and resonates authentically and uniquely with others.

I am now using ALL of my training in an integrated way. I have created a process that allows for this intuitive freedom to encompass the holistic journey of discovering each individual or organization’s most authentic expression for branding and identity work.

Made whole, your identity and brand can come forward in truth and dynamically connect to the world.

So that’s my story, now let’s talk about yours.

IDENTITY & BRANDING

It can be challenging to present your business professionally and with a clear message that connects to an audience. I will help identify your values, clients, and purpose-driven goals, and translate that into a compelling visual identity and lasting brand narrative.

PERSONAL BRANDING

Building a personal brand is about getting to the root of who you are and bringing that forward in the most true and compelling way possible. Together we can identify ways to remain consistent (and joyful!) in how you present yourself online and in person.

NOT SURE WHAT YOU NEED?

Totally get that. Maybe you just need to talk it out and strategize with someone who has a lot of experience and creative ideas. I offer consulting sessions to review where you are, and help you identify your needs and goals, and align you with your true path.

Somsara has a rare gift for bridging the gap between art and commerce, deeply understanding both. She knows how to connect with the needs of commercial artists while anchoring in the magic we all long to express but sometimes struggle to articulate. If you're looking for someone who truly sees you, who understands where you want to go, and who is devoted to meaningful work, Somsara is it. She is committed to helping you build a legacy brand that feels both powerful and deeply authentic. I can't recommend working with Somsara enough!”
